Engagement Ring Setting Guide

Introduction to Engagement Ring Settings

The setting of an engagement ring is vital in determining the overall style of your ring. It is important to understand which setting fits best with your personal taste and most represents the importance and depth of your love. Designers have taken these settings and elevated them with unique touches to make their rings distinct from the traditional silhouettes. This engagement ring setting guide will discuss each setting and the qualities that make them beautiful.

Solitaire Rings

Solitaire engagement rings are the most popular setting for brides-to-be. In this setting, a single brilliant diamond decorates an unadorned band that has no additional details to detract from its luminous beauty. The classic bride has always favored the solitaire. Although the bands are typically plain, designers have introduced unique metalwork and hidden details to the setting for refreshing twists. With this setting, white and yellow gold bands are timelessly elegant, however, platinum has become highly favored for its shine and durability.

Side Stone Rings

Side stone rings feature delicate, dainty diamonds decorating the shank. For the diamonds, there are several setting types that suit this style. In a pavé setting, the stones are arranged closely together and secured by small metal beads. Prong-set diamonds are kept in place by a metal basket that forms around the stones. A channel setting secures the stones between two strips of metal in a groove that goes across the band. Side stone rings can feature different diamond cuts that affect its appearance, with a round cut creating an elegant symmetrical radiance, or a princess cut displaying contrasts of curves and sharp edges.

Halo Rings

Halo rings gorgeously amplify the brilliance of a center stone with a collar of sparkling diamonds. Many brides select a halo setting to complement a sharper diamond cut, such as a princess or cushion cut diamond. Halos magnify the appearance of the size of the center stone regardless of the carat. For those who prefer subtle details, hidden halos are an option as well. This design is only visible from the side profile of the ring but still offers a remarkable sparkle.

Three Stone Rings

It is the symbolism behind three stone rings that makes them highly sought-after today. The three stones represent the past, present, and future of a couple’s love journey. The shapes of each stone can drastically change the style. Round diamonds maintain symmetry and balance across the ring, while an elongated cut, such as an emerald cut or pear shaped diamond, adds a modern flair to the engagement ring. Smaller side stones maintain focus on this center stone, while equal-sized stones create a unified mirage of light on your finger.
